To all Malaysian, Happy Merdeka!! I am not the very patriotic type. But I do like my country very much. Then I think of reasons. It just snapped in me. Its mainly because my family & friends, then, all the delicious food. Not forget to mention my memories in this small country. Leave aside these, I don't see myself to hold any enthusiasm to celebrate our independence day. That was how I feel before remembering what my papa always taught me.
Its true that there are some flaws in Malaysia.
- Supposedly a moderate and stable Islamic country, there have been beer banning and Muslims protest news flashing in media. Embarrassing themselves, embarrassing those who're overseas.
- Long way to go if Malaysia truly aiming to be the democratic country. Of course there are pros & cons in every decisions. More ISA arrests in the country, death of Teoh Beng Hock. Are they signs of uncivilized? Or a balance point between democratic and despotic?
- As for everyone doubt on safety in Malaysia, where I have been asked by different nationalities. Thefts, robberies, sexual criminal happens everywhere, every country faces them. The key here is to be alert and know where NOT to go. We are responsible for our safety. Everyone can be the next criminal, same theory, everyone may be the next victim. The problem is, the chances of this to happen is on your call.
Of course, Malaysia is not perfect country. yet it is safe. Think about typhoon, earthquake, volcanic eruption and bombing happening around the world. Mind you, we don't have them in Malaysia. For other Malaysian who doesn't appreciate the country very much, think about it, its the safe environment breed you. Compare yourself to those who experienced nature disaster, losing their family, time spent on rebuilding home, I feel blessed, hoping, you too. Stop all the complaints and blames on Malaysia for your sake. Don't magnified the flaws but look into the happiness our country brought to you.
